Easter Weekend Contest!

The long weekend has arrived! For me this means four days off from my day job. I will be able to get some work done around the house- spring cleaning. I also am itching to work on my writing workshop, which is actually just a big shed out behind the garage that has been under construction for about two years. My hubby has promised me this is the year it will be finished, so I’m going to hold him to it. But most of all, I will have some time to write.

I write everyday, even if just a little bit, but I have been seriously lacking the large blocks of time that I can dedicate to getting the words on the page. I have been exploring my steampunk novel and inventing some pretty cool contraptions along with so much research that I think if I was transported to 1875 Philadelphia, I wouldn’t bat an eye. I'm discovering such amazing things about speculative fiction from both my research and my co-bloggers. This is coming from someone who cut her teeth on contemporary romance. I still read contemporary for a bit of the familiar, but what if I want the extraordinary, the fantastic, flying contraptions, vamps, werewolves, space travel… ah, the possibilities.

What is it that you like about speculative fiction? It is the possibilities, the break from reality, or something more specific like vamps, cyborgs or something else strange and wonderful?

Contest Alert: As this is a holiday weekend, I feel like holding a contest. Sometime over the weekend (before Monday) post a comment on this (Thursday’s) blog post including a link to your blog, facebook or twitter account showing where you have linked to this blog post and I will enter you in the contest.

The prizes: I have a selection of new books that I am giving to 2 lucky winners. 1st prize will be 2 books of your choice and 2nd prize will be the other 2 books. The books are: Silent Night, Haunted Night by Terri Garey – Gabriel’s Ghost by Linnea Sinclair – Vampire Sunrise by Carole Nelson Douglas – Hope in Love by J. Hall Steele. (Heat levels are very steamy for some of these books so I am going to keep it to adults only) I will contact the winners on Monday. Good luck everyone, and Happy Easter!

I love escaping to a world of danger and action and extraordinary characters and creatures. Something totally different from my day to day life. I like still believing in magic and vampires and a snarky potions professor with a velvet voices, large nose, greasy hair and sour disposition that still oozes sex appeal in the right writers hand. Is it hot in here?

Who wants reality when you can dive into speculative fiction?

Woot! I'm first. I have added this site to my Blogroll (right-side, middle). Tell the hubby that you are going to crack the whip on him if he doesn't get your workspace set up soon! Hugs -Julie

Hey, Stacie, great post. Though I don't see why Canada gets a four day weekend. The US doesn't and we're supposed to be allies. As for speculative fiction, I'm not even sure I know what that is, but I'm always up for a break from reality.

Reality is definitely overrated R. A. I will take fantasy any day of the week.

Oh, I adore speculative fiction. I actually prefer it for the most part. I'm not a huge vampire/shifter fan or huge on the normally popular trends. But give me the odder stuff and I'm sold!

Hi, Stacie! Your site is impressive! Anything other-worldly is on the top of my list for a good read. I've been, and still am, hooked on Dean Koontz----especially after meeting him at the RT Convention. What an exciting day that was! Your writing workshop sounds like it will be heaven on earth when it's completed. Please give us updates on its progress, and good luck with your writing!

What I love about writing speculative is that I invent the rules. It is my world.

What I love about reading speculative fiction is that everything is bigger and more exciting, and the good guy wins.

And down here in Sydney Australia we have a 5 day weekend as our ANZAC Day is on the Monday. That is our remembrance day for those who served and those who died in Wartime past and present.

Ahh, another Aussie on the blog! Yep, even as I'm travelling around the US, I'm missing my Aussie 4 day Easter Weekend. As Gia said, this year a 5 day weekend for ANZAC day--a great time for remembrance and friends and family getting together.

I'm up for speculative fiction and I'm chuffed your blog is kicking off so well, Stacie. YAY for you and the other girls on the blog.

I am really surprised that the US does not get a 4 day weekend. Inventing my own rules is such a rush, I am starting to love spec fiction more and more each day.
