As I've been planning our vacation to San Francisco at the end of the month, I've found myself reflecting on past trips that have really inspired me. The beautiful sights, the new sensations, the wonderful people; all of these things are absorbed and mined for story elements later on. Here's a few of my favorite memories:
Colorado mountains are just amazing.
The Duomo in Florence. It's so incredible, and a little scary going up.
View from the top, after the 460+ stairs (worth it).
I love photographing statuary close-ups, an easy hobby in Italy. This one was in a small sea-side park in Sorrento.
Ahh, Venice. 'Nuff said.
Stilt walkers in Dusseldorf. Those guys were a blast!
The view from our hotel in the middle of Queen's Day festivities in Haarlem, the Netherlands. We didn't sleep much that trip, LOL.
Obscure German castles, anyone?
What travels have inspired or benefited your craft? Is there a particular destination that has influenced your work or sparked an idea? I'm also still gathering ideas for my San Francisco trip - let me know where you like to go in the Golden City.
Unfortunately I can no longer have a vacation without working. The scenery of Lake Como and Capri did wonders for inspiring me.
ReplyDeleteI LUV Italy!
I love to travel, and luckily hubby likes it as well. My next book out is set in Yellowstone National Park, which is a direct result of our visit there. We're off to China in two weeks. I expect that will generate some ideas. I enjoyed your snaps. I'd love to return to Italy and Venice one day.
ReplyDeleteIsis - Yes! Capri was amazing. We spent several days hopping around Sorrento and it was such a beautiful and relaxing change of pace after Rome. And I love lemoncello, LOL.
ReplyDeleteShelley - Lucky girl! I haven't been to Asia, but it's definitely on our list. I want to go back to Italy too, but I've seen a lot of it already, so I'll probably do something different for a while. Have a wonderful trip!
What beautiful pics! I'm currently working on one that was inspired by Jamaica. I love that island. If I could ever move anywhere, Jamaica would become my new home.
ReplyDeleteDonna - I'm sure I'll make it to the Caribbean someday since my mother goes all the time. She loved Jamaica too :-)
ReplyDeleteI won? woot! :) Love these pics. I miss backpacking in Europe. In college I spent a month roaming around. I slept on park benches, trains, train stations, etc... It was awesome.
